Piazza Maggiore

Piazza Maggiore is the most important square in Bologna and it was created in its present appearance the 13th century.

The square is surrounded by the Palazzo dei Notai the Palazzo d' Accursio the palazzo del Podestà and the Basilica of San Petronio.

It plays an important role in the lives of Bologna's citizens who love to cross it and live it especially on Sunday morning, when small groups gather to comment on current town.

Is the ideal location for some of the most important events, concerts, and from some years during the summer becomes the venue for film festivals.

The "Crescentone," so named by the locals, has undergone a restoration in 2004 which increased the fascination but leaving still see some evidence such as damage caused by the passage of wagons armed during the second

World War.
